Mencap is a charity that supports members with learning disabilities.
A highly rewarding role, where I offer support and friendship, while promoting equality and opportunities for all members, who each have specific needs or requirements. Entirely people focused, this is a joy to be a part of, and I regularly attend planned sessions and events along with the members, and other volunteers, designed to enrich who attend. This role, so far, has taught me many things, most importantly is an identity first approach to all people, as we are not defined by anything but who we are as a person.
